A Bit About Me
Ted Irving is a Culture Change Agent, Mass Media Influencer, Performance Analyst, Recruiting Specialist, and Professional Educator. His achievements across all these industries have made him a pacesetter with amazing contributions. Ted’s background with a master’s degree in mass communications from Texas Southern University, and Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree—Radio, TV, & Film, from the Sam Houston State University Dan Rather School of Communications, coupled with his learned and acquired knowledge and skills traversing more than a decade’s experience with Fox, ABC, and NBC, have enabled him to build a successful brand and career.
Ted’s leadership journey started as a Television and Film Professor at the Houston Community College Stafford Media. He has also served the University of St. Thomas, & the Art Institute of Houston in a Mass Communications Professor capacity after a successful leadership experience as a teacher with the Jack Yates School of Communications, and the Hightower High School Digital Media Academy as Academy Coordinator/Instructor, with a return to the Houston Independent School District historic Jack Yates High School as the Magnet Coordinator & Director for the state-of-the-art, 3.5 million dollar, School of Communications and Maritime Logistics programs. Serving across all these fields and in different capacities, he learned the skills in leadership, culture change and strategic marketing unique to media outlets, career & technology education, and human resources, all of which brings them to bear in his current career under the Office of the Mayor as the Director of the City of Houston’s cable channel- Houston Television (HTV).
With deep industry knowledge, coupled with a tenacious analytical and detail-oriented approach, Ted is equipped to understand the needs of the most discerning cultures, work-settings, and audiences, delivering an experience rooted in service, integrity, and expertise. His strong personal and professional skills make him a keen advocate for those he represents as seen in his documentary and storytelling work, the latest being Soul Alley, an Amazon Prime documentary detailing the children of African American children left after the Vietnam War and the neighborhoods created by those vets.
Ted is proactively seeking out new ways to enhance his services and continually attain excellence, with employee engagement and improving organization cohesiveness his ultimate objective.
