A Bit About Me
Ted Irving: A Dynamic Force in Media, Education, and Culture
Ted Irving isn't just a professional; he's a Culture Change Agent, a Mass Media Influencer, and a pacesetter whose remarkable contributions have left an indelible mark across diverse industries. With a career spanning over three decades, his journey is a testament to his passion for communication and his innate ability to inspire.
From Broadcasting to Academia: A Foundation of Excellence
Ted's impressive background laid the groundwork for his impactful career. He holds a Master's degree in Mass Communications from Texas Southern University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Radio, TV, & Film from the prestigious Sam Houston State University Dan Rather School of Communications. This academic prowess, combined with invaluable real-world experience at industry giants like Fox, ABC, and NBC, empowered him to cultivate a successful brand and an extraordinary career.
A Leader's Journey: Shaping Minds and Media
Ted's leadership odyssey began in the classroom, where he served as a Television and Film Instructor at Houston Community College Stafford Media. His dedication to education continued at the University of St. Thomas and the Art Institute of Houston as a Mass Communications Teacher. He also made significant contributions to the Houston Independent School District, first as a teacher at the Jack Yates School of Communications and then as Academy Director & Instructor for the Hightower High School Digital Media Academy. His return to the historic Jack Yates High School saw him take on the pivotal role of Magnet Coordinator & Director for their state-of-the-art, $3.5 million School of Communications new build in 2017, and Maritime Logistics programs partnership with Port Houston. All while guiding his team towards Project Based Learning strategies with enhanced curriculum for Career & Technology Education.
These diverse experiences honed his exceptional skills in leadership, culture change, and strategic marketing within media, career and technology education, and human resources. Today, he brings this rich tapestry of expertise to his role as the Director of Houston Television (HTV), the City of Houston's cable channel, operating under the Office of the Mayor.
A Visionary with a Purpose: Service, Integrity, and Storytelling
Driven by deep industry knowledge and a tenacious, detail-oriented approach, Ted possesses a unique ability to understand the needs of even the most discerning cultures, work settings, and audiences. He consistently delivers an experience rooted in service, integrity, and expertise. His strong personal and professional skills make him a powerful advocate for those he represents, a commitment vividly showcased in his compelling documentary and storytelling work. His passion project, Soul Alley, an Amazon Prime documentary, powerfully details the lives of Amerasian children left behind after the Vietnam War and the vibrant, yet troubling, neighborhoods created by those veterans.
Ted is perpetually seeking innovative ways to enhance his services and achieve excellence. His ultimate objective remains clear: fostering employee engagement and cultivating organizational cohesiveness, while nurturing and developing the next generation of story tellers.
